Raging Waters

+

(To the tune of “wussut el bahr el hayig”)

In the midst of raging waters,

My boat was rent apart,

Waves did crash upon me,

And gnashed my feeble heart.

I sighed and cried with fervour,

In despair I did concede,

To cry up to the heavens

That hope to me would feed:

Where art Thou, Lord?

Where is Thy mercy?

Where are Thou, Lord?

Where is Thy mercy?

Lord, I wish to hear Thy word,

but instead receive silence.

In anger and desperation,

I looked on high and raged.

Should He not come and save me,

Am I not to Him engaged?

Why be it that I perish,

When live more evil men?

Are they more precious to Thee

Than I, as good as ten?”

Stretch Thy hand, Lord,

Arise and save me,

Stretch Thy hand, Lord,

Arise and save me!

If Peter walked upon this sea,

then why, Lord, cannot I?

As closer to death I journeyed,

I closed my eyes to rest.

I saw my life before me,

And thought I did my best.

But then were shed my eyes’ scales

That now my heart could see

My toils and and my labours,

In truth, I did for me.

Lord, I see now,

I served my own pride,

Lord I see now,

I served my own pride.

I preached out in Thy Name,

Hoping men would then praise mine.

Instead of love and mercy,

I lived both pride and greed.

Instead of knowledge of self,

My ego I would feed.

Where Thou hadst asked for love,

Thy presence I did resist.

Where I had the means to choose Thee,

Even more did I desist.

I have sinned Lord,

My God have mercy!

I have sinned Lord,

My God have mercy!

Without Thee there can be no peace,

Without Thee is the storm.

I woke in the realisation,

That the storm was my own choice:

The choice of one who walks,

Ignoring the Shepherd’s voice.

He is the one who commands the seas,

He’s the Helmsman of the ship,

With surety I will hold His hand,

And trust His gracious grip.

Then I saw Him,

In radiant glory,

Then I saw Him,

In radiant glory.

My son, you see, I am the Way,

I am the Author of Life. (Maybe rather have something here about the one whose foundations are the world, who created the seas etc…)

His mercy now has saved me,

and one thing I now do hope:

That ne’er my pride may blind my eyes,

And bind me with a rope.

A chance to live abundantly,

We all may freely use:

To live a life of holiness,

And we, ourselves accuse. (or, “And Him, with our will, choose”

Prince of Peace,

Come dwell within me.

Prince of Peace,

Come dwell within me.

Come now with Thy Good Father,

and Thine Holy Spirit.
